Vlad M. Daraban is a young architect currently living and working in Bali, Indonesia. Originally from Romania, he began his studies with landscape architecture at the "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture & Urbanism where he obtained his bachelor's degree. He later relocated to France, where he received his B.A. under Prof. Phillipe Barriere at the Ecole Speciale d'Architecture.
Later on, he opted to relocate to London, where he completed his master's degree in experimental architecture at The Bartlett School of Architecture under the tutelage of Nat Chard and Emma-Kate Matthews.
His interest in understanding nature's processes through plant physiology, the methods by which one visually relates to our first nature, as well as his concern for the over-technologization of the living apparatus and, as a result, its forceful intrusion into architecture today (while our commercial building materials and methods of sourcing them remained quite outdated, causing a significant toll on our planet's wellbeing) have prompted him to expand his research into bio-digital design and open his private architecture studio, HEAALTH.
We investigate the growing processes of living systems in collaboration with computational design at HEAALTH in order to generate an architecture that increases and maintains biodiversity. HEAALTH studies how these three channels of creative protocol could yield a relevant yet unpredictable output by developing methods that incorporate nature, humans, and robots.
At HEAALTH we are looking into the collaborative qualities of indigenous construction techniques using living systems and the simulated aspect of computational drawing. Because of its diversity and delayed finality, the eventual product cannot be predicted.
